Upgrade 12.1’ screen to SXGA+ for X31

The upgrading process is complicated and the following is a brief description.

1. My successful T4X screen updating inspires me to handle 12.1’ screen of X31. To modify the LCD cable of T4X is to change definition of its GPIO (General Programmable Input Output Pin). We define the screen of T4X into higher resolution by grounding PIN 1 and PIN2 of PC87392. In fact, IBM designers had considered this for X31, and supplied two jumpers on the LCD cable (see Figure 1, 2)

2. As GPIO is based on BIOS and H8 chip (Figure 3), to revise GIPO I have to change the GPIO definition supporting in BIOS first, which is quite difficult. I’ve practiced and studied it when handled with the QXGA screen before. I isolated the BIOS of T4X and combined its display part into BIOS of X31, in this way the new BIOS of X31 supporting GIPO change was born.

By reading this post I finally get the point of setting up this English-only board. What I can recall is, days ago I accidentally connected to thinkpads.com Support Community (http://forum.thinkpads.com, I bet many of you already know about that community), and got into a post over there where a bunch of UXGA and QXGA fans were discussing a lot about how to install those screens onto a T6x Thinkpad. Some of them knew a bit of how to work it out, but not much of all details. They were still exploring. I remember one post mentioned about a Chinese forum about doing the same thing (which definitely means here). The funny thing is that, he mentioned the fund-raising event which was initialized by HOPE with his 120K nb's. Seems like that guy knows a bit Chinese language but not that much, so he can only read that it was a funding thing, but didn't realize what nb means over here and therefore he took it seriously as a very much formal fund-raising and research project...

Anyway, it is good to see a English board established over here. Should it help to make an advertising post in that community, I would like to pass this message to them (or some board moderators already get this done?)

It's OK to let others know something of our work.

This sxga+ LCD is not suitable for x31. because the screw positions are not the same as x31.
even we can replace IC and BIOS.

after I bought this LCD. I decided to give up.
